How could it all have gone so badly wrong?

Another scan from the pages of a teenage scrap book, this time showing a Wolverhampton built Guy Big J. In the mid 1970s Britain had a still vast commercial vehicle manufacturing base, even if a large percentage of it had fallen within the control of British Leyland. When you read advertising like this, one wonders just how the Continentals could possibly have even managed to get a foot in the door. Sadly by this time cracks were appearing and it was all about to crumble until today, we have no indigenous heavy commercials.
