Yeoman service

I only ever visited the Hereford premises of Yeoman Motors on one occasion, and found it to be a bastion of the Bedford marque. Like many other common place British buses, I only ever seemed to become interested in them as they began to fade from the scene. My faith in Bedfords had taken a severe bashing when we'd tried to use them turn about with Leylands, AECs and Daimlers back in the late 70s and 1980s. That said, many a company did get good service from them, I guess it was a matter of not letting them get out of their depth or knowing their limitations.

I've never really known what the enigmatic 'Canyon Travel' in the Yeoman's name was all about, perhaps some corruption of Canon Pyon from where I believe the business originated maybe? Here, PGR 619N is the subject and is a mid engined Bedford YRT which started life with famous North Eastern independent, Jolly of South Hylton. The style of Willowbrook body paid homage to the superb BET federation style, but didn't quite make it! This slightly cheaper build was the staple diet of many an independent requiring a 'lightweight' service bus. The Wadham Stinger Bedford to the left appears to have some issue with it's bumper, requiring it to be affixed with packing band.
