Broadhurst's 'Offerton Coaches'
A small operator of a Daimler Roadliner touched on in the comments relating to yesterday's posting was 'Offerton Coaches'. The name came from the home 'village' on the road between Stockport and Marple. The proprietor was one Mr Broadhurst.
In our teenage years and early 20s, Tim Machin and I tracked down as many Daimler Roadliners as possible allowing for our meagre funds and limited motorised mobility. Offerton Coaches was one such 'discovery' following a lengthy Saturday afternoon search (no Google street view then!). From memory on our first encounter, ex Black & White Plaxton Panorama Elite bodied SRP8, UAD 316H, had a Bedford VAS for company, but on successive visits the Bedford was swapped for a Plaxton Supreme bodied Bristol LHS as seen here. We never gained access to the small compound, but reasonable pictures could be obtained through the wire fence.
As a footnote, Mr Broadhurst had to cease operations on health grounds and I ended up buying his Roadliner for my Knotty Bus & Coach business about ten years after this photo was taken. As here, it operated in a very reliable manner on all sorts of work.
