Land Rover on test.
All manner of interesting things make up the former PMT archive. Potteries Motor Traction were very good at documenting not just the many and varied types in their fleet, but also routes and various mechanical aspects of note. This is one of the last mentioned.
The company had been wooed into purchasing a Land Rover and with it the prospect of being able to use it for bus recovery when the larger vehicles weren't available. Needless to say, the 'theory' had to be tested so it was duly hooked up to one of the company's numerous Weymann bodied Leyland Atlanteans and set the task of hauling it up Hartshill Bank out of Stoke centre. I believe the trial was a success, but I don't think in reality the vehicle was used very much for this line of work.
At nearby Stoniers, much later on, we too had a long wheelbase Landrover which would occasionally get pressed into service for recovery, but that always seemed to result in a broken half shaft within the ensuing 24 hours.
