RE vitalised
Involvement with a Kent based bus dealer has brought many and varied unusual buses through Reliance Bus Works. Several years ago, a large number of Northern Irish Alexander (Belfast) bodied Bristol REs were processed... whilst the others still remain stored with us (!). All those worked on were the NI standard Gardner powered variants, not usually known for their raucous sound effects. However ... BXI 2588 was the most unbelievably vocal RE I've ever come across, my ears were nearly bleeding after a ninety mile delivery journey;-) Here she stands in Lower Ash Road, Kidsgrove after having had all the old ladies at the bus stop in the town centre scratching their heads and pointing at the destination blind. The bus was resplendent in the livery of Bromyard Omnibus, having just gained a mainland UK CoiF. Ironically, the bus was never used as such, but was hastily re-painted 'stealth' dark green and sent to work on a Cornish farm.
