Deltic 55 007 - Grimsby.

Having recently looked at 'geordiedave66's photostream, and seen pictures taken in the steam era from a location close by, I was prompted to post this. During the twilight of their careers, some of the class 55 English Electric Napier Deltics were redeployed onto regional services. Armed with a BR East Midlands Rail Rover ticket and B&B at home, Mrs 'R' to be, and I, set off for several days of just catching the next train which turned up. So we found our selves at Lincoln St. Marks in the summer of 1980 (I think), and 55 007 happened to turn up heading for Grimsby. A fabulous run ensued as we were cosseted in a de-classified 1st class compartment. I must have been impressed by 'Pinza', as I subsequently named my cat after it!

The 'Deltics' when built were billed as the worlds most powerful single unit Diesel Locomotive at 3,300hp. They were intended for 100mph operation on the East Coast Main Line.
