Sunday workings?
In response to 'Semmytrailer's' comment regarding class 24/25s at Kidsgrove in my younger days as a railway enthusiast, here's one of the latter with an unusual working. The picture was taken from a hill overlooking the south portal of the new Harecastle tunnel, though a dozen or more years later than my recent posting. I can only presume that the shot was taken on a Sunday when the power was off (I never kept any records!), as there's a seldom seen DMU type on a Manchester bound service, always an EMU duty. Did the Leyland National based coach behind the '25' ever go into production? It was quite likely that it was heading for Derby , and the 'Research and Technical Department'
The brick building in the foreground housed pumping equipment which had supplied water to the then recently closed Birchenwood Gas & Coke Co. approx half a mile distant.
