RMC and Bala lake.

I hesitate to describe last weekend as being relaxing, but there most definitely was a good deal of hobby type pleasure to be had. Some of Sunday was spent driving this old girl on a park and ride from Bala leisure centre, via the town to the slightly isolated Bala terminus of the lake railway. Plans are afoot to bring the railway into the town and therefore a greater audience, but until then, an occasional bus shuttle on high days and holidays will have to suffice.

In the above picture, Routemaster Buses (Nantwich) AEC RMC class Routemaster (RMC 1490 / 490 CLT) is seen parked opposite the railway terminus with the tip of the lake for a backdrop. 1490's rather a pleasant bus to drive, I have to say ... and I'm not even a Routemaster enthusiast. Its AEC 590 engine is a sweet running thing, and the rear air suspension aided by deep cushioned seats gives a very smooth ride on the occasions I got to be a passenger.
