Early morning shuttle
On one of the first of the free shuttle buses to today's Crewe Heritage Centre event was one of Routemaster Buses trio of Olympians. Alexander 'RL' bodied H118 SAO is the oldest of them, but still looks absolutely immaculate and a credit to its owners. All the three of them are in some way different, this one being a Gardner powered Leyland built machine, whilst the intermediate one's Cummins powered and the newest a Volvo. Fuel consumption apparently increases by 2mpg with each of the above engines. The Gardner powered bus sees nearly 10mpg, the Cummins 8 and the Volvo struggles to achieve 6 ... such is progress!
