Liverpool Corporation Regent (1)

A recent visitor to us at Reliance Bus Works was this ex Liverpool Corporation AEC Regent V. We don't get too many AEC 'deckers come our way (except Routemasters) so it was especially pleasing to get this one to work on for a few days. VKB 900 has bodywork by Metro Cammell to their 'Orion' design but has one or two bespoke Liverpool 'mods'. Obviously the city didn't approve of AEC's own front grille pattern so designed their own replacement. The built up front N/S mudguard which contains the side light was also a distinguishing feature I gather. The bus was originally powered by AEC's 9.6 litre engine, the predecessor of the 590, but as the former are getting difficult to obtain, the 9.6's larger stablemate, the 11.3 now inhabits the engine bay.

The bus is seen here on it's return journey from our compound for a quick checking over (fitting of front 'nut rings' etc) prior to collection by it's owners last Saturday.
