New Tamarack Needles

This new spring growth of Tamarack was much lighter than the deep greens of the non-deciduous black spruce in the background. It's open, airy growth habit and short needs gave the trees an ethereal quality - you could see them, but you could also look right through them.

Tamarack (Larix laricina) is a deciduous conifer found in Canada and the northern portions of the US. It is a common tree in bogs, fens, and mineral wetlands. The needles turn a beautiful golden color in the fall.
