Badwater Basin Salt Polygons

Badwater Basin is a large playa formed in Death Valley in the basin once occupied by Lake Manly. The salt flats formed there are fairly shallow and overlie lacustrine silts and clays. The combination of the two produces large salt polygons with upthrust edges that are sometimes lined with mud, particularly towards the outer edges of the salt flat.
