A few minutes after the sun's rays hit the valley floor I climbed the tallest dune on the eastern side of the Mesquite Flats dunefield and shot this image looking eastward towards the Amargosa Range. The Kit Fox Hills below are still in shadow.

 

I could have used a gradient filter to keep the sky from being washed out but didn't have one with me at the time.
