Crossing The Road
The nice policeman will stop all the traffic whilst you cross the road.
It might help if you look where you are going rather than at the man taking your photograph.

For most of the time in the children's home there was not a policeman around to help us cross the road, to get to the sweet shop, having a busy 'A' road there was a zebra crossing that most of us used. Often a Sister or older child would escort the younger group across, most of the time the cars did stop for us.
Once you were about eight you were thought old enough to go to school on your own or with others of your own age, no police or adults to look after you, most of us survived the mile or so walk without any problems.
