Modern Age

My village.

Connected to the modern world via cables and satellites and fast roads.

We're living in the modern age.

Some of us.

The family who flew to Forida to swim with dolphins live beside the woman who's never been to the neighbouring village 3 miles away. She's 85 yrs old.

My friend and his family eat their meals at the exact same time each day. "We still observe the factory hours, Dear", he tells me. The factory closed over 20 years ago.

These old folks are stuck in the past. They need to 'get with it'.

...or maybe they're better off without it.

For these are the people who stand still reverently and doff their caps when a funeral procession passes. They are the people who knock on the door instead of sending an email. And these are the people who lead slightly less complicated lives and therefore remember to ask about your Father, who was sick last time you saw them.

In the coming years more cables and satellites and fast roads will come.

...and the old people from the past

will steadily

one by one

go.
