Summer in the Long Meadow

I have such an affection for these cows in my village. In late Spring a scruffy handwritten sign is nailed to a post that says, "Cows in field next week". And when next week comes, this beautiful family-unit of cows is to be found grazing on the common land. They lie in the buttercups. They flick away flies and drink at the stream. I hear them calling plaintively to each other if they get separated.

Sometimes they're in the woods, which is an unusual environment to find cows. One day I'll have my camera with me and I'll take photos of them there, in the dappled light.
