Halawa River

The river flows from the mountains down through the Halawa Valley to Halawa Bay. Island of Moloka'i.

For the most part, Moloka'i is not a very enchanting place. The windward side, that gets all of the rain water, is sheer cliffs down into the water. So it is largely uninhabitable, and accessible mainly by boat. The leeward side of the island gets little rain and is semi-arid.

Halawa Valley is a pleasant exception, at the boundary between the windward and leeward sides. But is a bit difficult to get to.

The island is thinly populated and has no traffic lights. Not even one. No fancy restaurants, and little in the way of grocery stores. Three or four gas stations. (Or maybe two or three.)

But it is where you want to go if your goal is to get away from it all. In my estimation, it lives up to the nickname as "the friendly isle."
