Moody Moonset - Alstonefield, Peak District (1 of 2)

Another early morning moonset from our holiday in the Peak District.

This one was taken an hour earlier than the other moonset at 04:30 hrs before the sun had lightened the sky and was higher in the night sky.

Much more dramatic clouds and a far brighter moon.

I had to wait a while for the cloud to just take the brightness of the moon down a bit otherwise it was just too bright as I wanted the other colours as well in the image.

This scene reminded me of the Moody Blues track "The Day Begins" from the album "Days of Future Passed" -

"Cold hearted orb that rules the night

Removes the colours from our sight

Red is gray and yellow, white

But we decide which is right

And which is an illusion

Pinprick holes in a colourless sky

Let insipid figures of light pass by

The mighty light of ten thousand suns

Challenges infinity and is soon gone

Night time, to some a brief interlude

To others the fear of solitude

Brave Helios, wake up your steeds

Bring the warmth the countryside needs"

Alisonashton also linked this image to a poem by Walter de la Mare which seems very relevant to this image as well. Many thanks Alison - the words in this poem are simply stunning.

Silver

"Slowly, silently, now the moon

Walks the night in her silver shoon;

This way, and that, she peers, and sees

Silver fruit upon silver trees;

One by one the casements catch

Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;

Couched in his kennel, like a log,

With paws of silver sleeps the dog;

From their shadowy cote the white breasts peep

Of doves in silver feathered sleep

A harvest mouse goes scampering by,

With silver claws, and silver eye;

And moveless fish in the water gleam,

By silver reeds in a silver stream."
