Captain William Dudley

The headstone of Captain William Dudley (1793 - 1863) and his three wives Harriet Cragin, Mary Cobb, and Sophronia Lincoln of Worcester. He was the son of Major Paul (who served with Captain Knapp during the American Revolution) and Dorothy Dudley.

 

Captain Dudley married Harriet Cragin of Douglas (1797 - 1820) on January 18, 1816 and had a son named William Dudley on Novemebr 11, 1816 and a daughter named Harriet Cragin Dudley a few months before his wife died. His daughter moved to Maine were she went on to marry and become the mother of the Harriet C. D. Barker in the previous photo.

 

He Married Mary Cobb of Taunton (1801 - 1826) on June 10, 1822 and had three children who all died young

 

He married Sophronia Lincoln of Worcester (1804 - 1865) on Sept. 9, 1827 and had Sophronia who was a stillbirth, George Dudley in 1834, Edwin R. Dudley in 1838, and Mary W. Dudley in 1844.

 

www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~widane/bios/dudley_wm.html gives additional information on Captain Dudley's first son William who would move to Madison, Wisconsin. There he would become a prominant business man as well as State Librarian and Private Secretary to Gov. Farwell.
