House of Affirmation

The House of Affirmation in Whitinsville, Massachusetts was established in 1973 by Rev. Thomas A. Kane as a rehabilitation center for pedophiles and other troubled clergy. Rev. Kane was a Wall Street Journal Fellow and won the 1972 Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Young Leader Award. He also published several books while working at the House of Affirmation and later became the executive director of the National Guild of Catholic Psychiatrists on recommendation of Bishop Timothy J. Harrington. The House of Affirmation closed in 1989. It is now occupied by the Office for Youth Ministry for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester and is often referred to as the Oakhurst Retreat and Conference Center. As of 2002, Kane director of an international training institute for teachers in Guadalajara, Mexico.
