Represents Rev 12:1 "And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars." In the early church many commentators identified the woman with the Church, though in the Middle Ages she was often identified with the Virgin Mary. Modern Catholic commentators appear divided on the issue.
