Robert Aske's family was for generations associated with Ellerton priory, and some were buried there. He led the Pilgrimage of Grace which protested, inter-alia, about the dissolution of such houses. On his cloak, below his left shoulder, is a newt, the dialect words for which is "ask" or "aske".
