On the day I passed my test I left the school at HMS Daedelus where I was having my lessons and drove straight to the AVT yard in Four Marks, Hampshire. I got in this wonderfull old girl and took her out for a spin. She was a lovely motor (if a little tired) and is sadly no longer with us. I was always have a soft spot for her. Thats me in the driving seat.
Colin Janes says:
We knew her as 722. I drove this at Wiltax and then afterwards at AVT. I kept hearing horror storises at both operators about how bad it was and how rough it was underneath and yet it kept going. Never failed an MOT while we had it and I didnt mind driving it. Now still going stong at Edward Thomas I believe.
Colin Janes says:
When I started working for Wiltax, this was the first coach I drove for them. It took me half a day to work out where the door button was. Was well chuffed when it came to AVT. A lovely coach once it warmed up but the gearbox was a pig when it was cold. Did a rugby tour in this for Cobham Rugby club down to Paignton. The things these rugby types do. They had a good game called "15 minutes of nakedness on the bus" It was such a success they followed it up with a further 15 minutes. My daughter was in the dront seat behind me!!!! "DONT TURN ROUND"
Colin Janes says:
ONly drove this once or twice. Not my favourite Metrobus I must admit. Slow, sluggish, noisy but it did a job. AVT got rid of it after being told the floor under the centre doors were absolutely shot and not repairable. A couple of years later it turned up with a new operator on a rail job I was doing.
Nothing here yet.
