Major Tim's spacecraft I

The Descent module of the Soyuz spacecraft in which ESA astronaut Major Tim Peake, NASA astronaut Tim Kopra, and spacecraft commander Yuri Malenchenko returned to Earth from the ISS.

 

The large round window is not an original feature : it has been installed in place of the reserve parachute for the benefit of the public. The much smaller round feature near the right-hand edge of the module is an original window. The braided rope at the left of shot connects the capsule to its main parachute (which, in this display, was suspended from the ceiling.

 

Taken on 22 Nov 2017 at Locomotion, the Shildon branch of the National Railway Museum.

 

Shildon is of international significance as the "cradle of the railways". The connection between Shildon and the Russian space programme is, if I'm generous, somewhat tenuous.
