Hydrangea arborescens (Wild hydrangea)

Back up to Persimmon Ridge Road in Greenville County, South Carolina. It seems that there is always something in bloom during the non-winter seasons. Today, we found more Asclepias tuberosus (Milkweed). In addition, we found a large population of Hydrangea arborescens (Wild Hydrangea). What appears to be flowers along the outside edges are actually sterile flowers. Those smaller flowers toward the center of the inflorescence are the ones that the bees are interested in.
