Design by Iteration
Character designs go through many iterations before a final concept is locked. In fact, it’s very rare (if ever) that a single lone design for a character will be green-lit without exploring other options. Here, we see some early iterative concepts of Yoda (from Star Wars). By themselves, they allude to the final concept, but individually are both strikingly different from each other and the Yoda that the public knows and loves. Despite these differences, it is only through this process of exploration among many concepts that the Yoda we see in the movies was born.
