Apple Day

Every Fall Scouts Canada has Apple Day, where they raise money for activities and equipment. I had so little money on me that I could only grab one apple this year, but I gave that cash gladly.

Scouting changed my life. I was pretty sheltered as a young teenager, but because of being a Venturer I:

Can cook dinner for two dozen people without electricity

Can survive overnight in sub-zero temperatures

Can defend myself against a bigger opponent

Can roll a drunk friend across a cattle grid without breaking his legs

Have been left alone in the woods with a machete and told 'clear it'

and

Can (in theory) distill urine into pure drinking water (information courtesy of a retired Colonel I met in Wales)

Scouting has also given me some amazing friendships with people I respect and cherish to this day (Hi Tim!)
