For Judge Scow

Today I met an amazing man. As I left work tonight, I met an old man in the corridor. It was immediately apparent that he was lost and there were some dementia issues at play. He was lost and terribly concerned that he needed to call his wife- but couldn't remember their phone number. I took him downstairs and called the police to come help him.

He linked his arm with mine as we waited and I learned a little about him. He was a traveling circuit judge here in British Columbia. He put himself through school fishing salmon. He was born in Alert Bay, not far from where I worked summers to put myself through school. When the cops came, the officer assured me they knew him and knew where his home was. And thanked me for my kindness in waiting with Alfred.

I just did a quick google when I came home. I found out I spent time today with the first Aboriginal lawyer in Canada. I feel humbled, and if I see him again, I know where I can take him home.

This shell is from near where Alfred is from. Something familiar to him in a world where less and less is.
