On a snowy Friday evening in late December, Rico noticed his ring was becoming too tight for comfort. We tried every method for removal we could find online—ice water soaks, tightly-wrapped floss and every lubricant found in the average home—but nothing worked. So, at 11:45 PM, we set off to the fire station (in the midst of a snowstorm) to have his ring cut off. As a heater melted accumulated ice and snow from the EMS vehicle inside, we stood in the garage of the firehouse, as a young EMT sawed both sides of his band. Finally, at midnight, he was free.
