Prometheus by Paul Manship, 1934

Set in a pool backed by fountains in the lower plaza of the Rockefeller Center, New York.

 

Descending from Olympus to bring the civilising gift of fire to Humans, Prometheus is ringed by the sings of the zodiac. Critics savaged it when it was unveiled: "look like he just sprung out of a bowl of hot soup".

 

I see what they meant!
