Caister-on-Sea, Norfolk, UK

Church of the Holy Trinity,

Monument to Roger Crowe†1727. Marble. North east corner of chancel. Commissioned by his nephew Edward Bedingfield.

A surprisingly severe monument compared with his father’s just besides it. A curved inscription of dark marble, now difficult to make out, is framed by a segmental pediment with Corinthian capitals, executed in the grey flecked marble, which was fashionable in monument of the period. His sister had married into the Bedingfield, to whom Caster Castle passed on Roger’s death.
