Keyport-Kid
100 Strangers #9
Meet Barney. A piper with not 1 but 2 pipe bands to his credit. and has been playing for 35 years. The patch on the bag is for the Port Authority Police Pipes and Drums.
I spotted Mr. Rafferty playing solo in front of a local buisness in Fords NJ and being that it is St. Patricks Day and I needed a new stranger for my 100 Strangers project, I thought it only fitting to stop.
Barney was a great pleasure to meet. I told him I was learning the pipes myself while I play the bass drum in The American Celts in Keyport NJ. (shameless plug)We talked about all the parades we've each marched past and present.
I was treated to a special song writen for the band called "Drummers Lost" in memory of the 3 officers that were aslo drummers with the P.A.P.P&D.and gave thier lives on September 11th.
This was by far the most important stranger I've met and if Barney takes me up on my offer of a pint at the Keyport parade I would say we wouldn't be strangers any longer.
Thanks to you Mr. Raffety.
