2021 Annual Metis Flag Raising at the Barrie City Hall - Algonquin Woodland Aboriginal Peoples Tribal Council - AWAPTC
The Metis flag was fully raised and was not lowered to the half staff position to honour the memory of the aboriginal children who had passed away across Canada while in the care of the Residential Schools Program. It reminded me of the stories that Metis artist Cecil Youngfox shared with me about his terrible experiences that he had endured when in that system. He said that I was the first person that he had shared that information to. We talked on numerous occasions to allow him to release his sadness.
