And a few words from a dutiful mannequin….
‘Oh yes! It seemed only too right, to be parading a fine jacket and hat for the ladies who make it all worthwhile. Where would we be without them?!
Would the outfit appeal to a high-born lady? Or a comfortably off dowager looking to grace a social occasion of a certain renown? These were the thoughts encouraged by staff and organisers on this and many occasions when getting ready to face an audience of valued customers……
Nerves tingling, of course, but after much support and preparation, a mannequin who listened properly could, nine times out of ten, carry out her duty with full poise and confidence….
( And a very dignified lady in the audience came up later and whispered, if I recall rightly: “ You do so remind me of my dear Aunt! At her age she didn’t have much conversation. But she was always immaculately powdered and turned out, till her dying day!” All I could say was “Thank you!” How memories are stirred at these showings! ’.
