Widespread and familiar in large parts of Central & South America, this neat little bird often appears at garden nectar feeders as well as a range of flowers.
There is historical confusion regarding the taxonomic position of this species - it has been placed in it's own family, or with Tanagers or even Buntings..... There are also about 41 subspecies recognised !
