first time mom

I have a story to tell.

It's about insecurity.

The insecurity of a mother, and the insecurity of the photographer.

This young woman is the daughter of a very dear friend.

It's important to me that she be happy with her images.

After a shoot, and before I go through the images, I am always thinking, "Oh, no, oh, no, I hope I got something, I hope I didn't screw up."

So, I edited the lot and sent them to her. At that point, I try very had not to be anxious while I wait for the clients' response.

A few days later, she emails to tell me she likes them. A simple sentence. I hope she is happy, not simply being polite.

Later in the day, I am with the clients' mother, the grandmother to this darling baby. She says her daughter loves the images. The insecure photographer (me) says, "Really? Are you sure? Is she being kind?"

You see, the daughter has modeled, logged time behind the camera.

Her mom says, "Oh, no. She wept."

And so did I.

Photographer friends, never underestimate the value of what you are doing.

Period.
