Kolukkamalai Tea Factory
World's highest tea plantation and factory, elevation 8000 feet.. The tea factory was built by the British in the 1930's. They currently use a lot of the old machinery brought in at that time. When I arrived there after 1 1/2 hours in a jeep on a bumpy road, the mountains were shrouded in fog, giving the place a mysterious feel. A man missing half his teeth was boiling some tea in a tin pot in the office - he offered some with a spot of milk. It was really good! He offered some lemon tea after the factory tour, which was also excellent. It's a long cry from Starbucks, but it's a better experience (however less convenient)
