Globetrotting December 2024 # 6 Morocco

This is one of the main streets in Fez”s old medina as you can see cars are not part of the scene . We were in Morocco in 2005 staying in Fez ams Marrakech, I much preferred Fez. The Medina is an amazing place a maze of unnamed streets we regularly got lost in. On one occasion we paid two young kids to show us the way to hotel. Still it was great fun a little like stepping back in time.

The Medina of Fez is listed as a World Heritage Site and is one of the world's largest and oldest urban pedestrian zones. It contains the University of al-Qarawiyyin which was founded in 857 and is the oldest continuously functioning institute of higher education in the world. It also contains the Chouara Tannery from the 11th century, one of the oldest tanneries in the world.
