Dhow countries

After the heat of of a Maasai village felt the need to cool down. Shot this Dhow from the port in Stonetown the only large city in Zanzibar. The Dhow is one of the emblematic images of Zanzibar and it gives a clue to the history of the island. The dhows probably came from Arabia and the island has a wonderful mix of African Arabic and Indian cultural influences. They have a form of music there called Taarab that demonstrates this is a an Island of fusion
