(30-2) Close Encounter in the Forbidden Zone

As you can see, the 2nd photo story is also from the archive. Many thanks to those friends who have already commented on this post. I spent about 3 hours with this butterfly not including the 2 hours I was in class and it was still staying on the same spot!

Nov. 11th, 2008

Around 2:30 PM, I was on my way to school. It was a day of a big political protest (don't remember which one!), so many roads were blocked with barbed wire barricades (see the images below). A lot of police were out. It was raining and chily.

I went past by a bush and suddenly spotted a beautiful white butterfly. It seemed to be bogged down by the rain and couldn't move much. I spent an hour with it and took many photos. By 3: 30 PM, I had to run to class.

Two hours later when I got out of class, it was already very dark. I went back to the spot where I saw that butterfly two hours ago and IT WAS STILL THERE!! I was thinking of bringing it back to the school to get a container and take it home to look after it. But by the time I was going to enter the gate of school, it got away from my hand. I think it didn't want to be in a container.....

But it didn't leave. It circled around me for a few times and then landed on the sidewalk and then a piece of wood next to me. There were many, many students at the time, I was afraid it might get stamped on if I just left it there. So I decided to let nature take its course. I picked it up again and brought it back to the bush where we first met. But I hid it in the bush so that nobody could spot it right away. It's too beautiful!

By the time I left the butterfly, it was almost 7:00 PM. The area was even more dead quiet because students were mostly gone and cars couldn't enter the FORBIDDEN ZONE. I hope that butterfly made it through that night quietly and fluttered again the following day....
