Central Park Stake

So when New York decided to get its act together and lay out a grid system a very accurate survey was conducted marking every intersection on Manhattan. When the survey was conducted it was planned streets would run through what is now Central Park. When Central Park was eventually built it was off limits to development and only a few roads were built through it. This stake marks where 66th Street and 6th Avenue would be. It was driven sometime in the early/mid 19th century.
