Found in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, it inhabits dry savannas, temperate and subtropical shrublands, and temperate grasslands. Sadly, it is threatened by habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade. The current global population is estimated at just 1,000 to 2,000 individuals.
