Another gem of the Cerrado biome.

 

At 7.5 cm (3 in) and under 3 grams in weight, this is one of the smallest birds known.

 

The species is generally poorly understood due to its rarity and this has also made it difficult to set a concrete conservation status.

 

Known in Brazil as "estrelinha-ametista".
