John Greenleaf Whittier [ ~1840-1860 ]

Died – September 7, 1892, Hampton Falls NH

 

Winston Churchill is said to have recited the poem Barbara Freitchie to FDR while driving through Frederick, Maryland.

 

His long poem Snow-Bound: A Winter Idyl brought him popular acclaim and financial security.
