Old Sinaia
Sinaia was built around a 17th century monastery -- but since the late 19th has maintained itself as a support town for the royal castle and a resort town. Mineral baths, ski areas, and the adjoining Bucegi National Park kept it popular for royalty, aristocrats, beneficiaries of the communist party, and today's successful Romanian capitalists and tourists.
After 1989 there were a large number of new hotels built in the hills. Construction is still very active.
This photo was taken on a cold fall morning with ice on the road and wood smoke in the air.
