Mt. Diablo

Kite Aerial Photography practice on a murky day. Rain is coming.

The tower was built as an aircraft beacon in 1928 by Standard oil. The stone building and observation platform were built from local standstone as a WPA project during the Great Depression. Following Pearl Harbor the aircraft beacon was extinguished to avoid assisting Japanese planes. Radar invented . . . . It is still lit once a year on December 7th as a memorial to those died on that day.
