over up down Cantor south

Sequential photos over the Cantor Art Museum, Stanford University. This gives a good idea of the movement of the camera through time. We were about 300 feet away at the same elevation as the octagonal tower. No spotter.

We used a low angle kite (FF16) and some ballast to try to keep the rig low. This allowed us to put out about 300 feet of horizontal line from the fourth floor of a parking structure (over trees and other buildings) to the site of the museum. The goal was a neutrally buoyant rig that we could control with line tension. In practice the wind was a little gusty and we had to run a few times to keep from touching down. A spotter on a cell phone would have been nice but it seems we knew pretty well where the camera was.

One of the nice things about flying from a parking structure is that once the rig falls below your elevation the kite only needs to pick up part of the weight of the rig. The line to the reel is pulling up also. I'll add a stick drawing with some stick people and a stick kite if it helps.
