13th century mosaic on west front of St Mark's, Venice

This is the only surviving original mosaic from the original 13th century decoration of the arches above the entrance portals on the west front of St Mark's Basilica, Venice, Italy. It is sited above the far left portal: the Porta di Sant'Alipio.

It depicts the placing of the body of St Mark in the basilica and was made around 1260.

In the lunette within the ogee arch beneath the mosaic are the symbols of the four Evangelists.
