ogee arch above main portal of St Mark's, Venice

The west front of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy has five 12th century portals: this ogee arch is immediately above the central, main portal. Its design appears to show eastern influences, perhaps reflecting the contact between Venice and trading partners from the East.

In the lunette within the ogee arch are the symbols of the four Evangelists.
