Bridge of Sighs, Venice
The Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) links the magistrate's court to the prison within the Doge's Palace, Venice, Italy. Its name is said to refer to the sighs of convicted prisoners as they had their last glimpse of freedom while crossing to begin their sentences. It was built in 1614 by Antonio Contino.
